How To Make Time For God With A Busy Schedule
It’s no doubt we live in a very busy and fast paced world. As women, most of the planning and scheduling rests on our shoulders. Your schedule is already maxed out, and yet you’re supposed to find time to read the Bible and pray?
I know it can seem daunting, but it’s so necessary to make space and time for God. Everything else, every relationship, depends on your relationship with God! Pretty powerful, right?
So, let’s take a look at your schedule and figure out how to make time for God with a busy schedule.
1. Remember The Why behind Spending Time With God
The best thing you can do when making time for God, is to remember the why. Why is it important for you to make time for God in the first place?
Luke 10: 40-42 is the story of Mary and Martha. Martha was busy cleaning her house and getting everything “just right” for Jesus to come visit. But she was so busy making the preparations, she didn’t pay important to what really matter–visiting and serving with Jesus himself. Instead, Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, and spent time with Him.
Don’t be like Martha, worried about all the things that you neglect time in His presence. This, THIS is the WHY.
But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”
Luke 10:4-42
2. Create A Routine For Your Devotional
While creating a routine may sound elementary, this is actually key for putting God into your busy life. If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail.
So, what will your routine be?
I love to journal prayers and praises to God, and then spend time reading the Bible.
3. Start Small
Spending time with God doesn’t have to be an hour-long ordeal. Just spend 5-10 minutes in devotion to God. And you’ll find that over time, your 5 minutes will slowly turn into 50!
4. Morning or Night? Pick ONE!
Most people spend the first few moments in the morning as their devotion time, or the last few minutes before bed. My husband likes to do his Bible reading in the morning, while I like to end my day with God.
Pick one. Whether that looks like setting your alarm 10 minutes early, or not starting your evening Netflix shows until after your devotion time.
You DO have 10 minutes you can spare here, either way.
But as for me, I will sing about your power. Each morning I will sing with joy about your unfailing love. For you have been my refuge, a place of safety when I am in distress.
Psalm 59:16
5. Be Flexible, but persistent in your Devotion to God
There are going to be some days that your devotion routine gets messed up. It might be a holiday, or you come down with a sickness. When you have to adjust your schedule–do so…but remain persistent.
It takes 21 days to start and break a habit!
6. Find Accountability and Community
Finding accountability will be a helpful factor in maintaining devotion to God amidst the business of life. We aren’t meant to do life alone, and especially not the Christian walk. If you are not a member of your local church—I urge you to join!
You can also join our free Facebook group for women—there is accountability, Bible studies, exclusive content, and more.
So, what will you choose? Will you make time for God with a busy schedule?
