Becoming a mother changed me in the very best way possible. I am sharing some of my thoughts on this journey of motherhood with Psalms for moms.
1. “How Precious Is Your Unfailing Love, O God…”
Once I became a mom, I had a newfound understanding of Christ’s love for me. After having my daughter, and knowing how much I love her, I often find myself asking, “How much more does my Father in heaven love me?”
Oh how He loves you.
Even more than you love your little one.
2. “I will praise you, for I am fearfully, and wonderfully made..”
I look at my girl and I see the most beautiful creation in the entire world.
This deepens my understanding of the verse, “you are fearfully and wonderfully made,” because if I, as her earthly mom, see and know how beautiful she is, how much more beautiful does the Lord think she is?
And not only her, but me, as well.
And you.
Women often struggle with not feeling beautiful or worthy, but I am here to tell you, it doesn’t matter what lies Satan is fills your mind with, YOU are beautiful, and he has created you in his image.
You were wonderfully made.
3. “I lift my eyes unto the hills, where does my help come from..”
The first week of motherhood was the hardest week of my 27 years of existence.
I was in a state of complete exhaustion, physical pain, loneliness, anxiety, and self-doubt (to name a few).
This isn’t to discount that the moment I met my daughter was the best moment of my entire life, or how being a mama has made me happier than I could have ever imagined, but if I am speaking honestly, for me, recovery/postpartum was flat out, awful.
I would constantly find myself praying for the LORD to help me and give me supernatural strength.
And he did. I could not have survived those first few months without his presence and help.
In fact, I remember praying for God to send help when I needed it.
I can’t tell you how many times, at just the right time, people showed up at my door and brought meals.
God truly answers our prayers– even in the littlest of ways sometimes.
He is our help in time of need.
4. “He catches our tears, and stores them in a bottle..”
The worst sound in the entire world for a mom is to hear is the cry of her baby.
I chose this as one of the psalms for moms, is because it parallels to Christ’s love for us.
My baby hates her car seat– she always has. It’s heart wrenching to hear her cry and scream as I drive down the road.
I want to jump out of my seat, pick her up, comfort her, and tell her that everything is going to be alright.
I long to embrace and hold my child, as she cries.
Oh how much more does my Father in heaven want to do that for me! How much more does he long to hold me and comfort me when I cry.
He sees me and that he catches my every tear.
He sees your tears, and catches them too.
Do you have any psalms for moms that helped you when you first become a mother?
I’m not sure about Psalms, but in Isaiah it says “He will gently lead those that are with young” makes me cry almost every time I read it. Such a precious promise, particularly for that first year of life with a new baby.
